“This 5 part workshop will show you how to create your own animated stories and give you an insight into the production process of traditional animated films.”
Tutor: Charlie Carter (email@example.com)
Age Group: 10+ (These lessons can get quite technical, so I would recommend younger attendees have an adult or older sibling standing by to help navigate more difficult parts like filesharing and exporting footage)
Teams (free to download)
A phone capable of running Stop Motion Studio* (see below) or a flatbed scanner to use during lessons.
* Stop Motion Studio (free to download on Google Store for Android or the App Store for iPhone, can be used on phones or tablets) This app will be used to capture animation sequences using your phone/tablet camera.
OPTIONAL: If you have access to a scanner at home you may use this to capture your footage instead of Stop Motion Studio if you wish. If so, please ensure all scanned images are scanned in order from first to last (with filenames named in ascending numerical order, ie. 001.jpg, 002.jpg etc.) and stored in a folder with no other files.
Another option for drawing your animation sequences is to use a lightpad, which plugs in via USB and shines light through A4 paper making it transparent. It is an affordable alternative to tracing paper if you already have A4 paper. (Example.)
SENDING FILES: An online folder will be created for you to upload your files. Please ensure all your work is kept in the folder with your name on it, and that image sequences are kept in separate folders to avoid getting mixed up.
Required Materials for all 5 lessons:
(Where requested, links can be provided by email for recommendations on materials. For tracing paper I would recommend a fresh pad of 30 sheets or more for each requested lesson as you may be producing a lot of drawings for your animation.)
A4 Paper for drawing
Pads of Tracing Paper
Storyboard Template (Email attachment to be printed or copied by hand)
Audio Recording Capability (phone, microphone, computer microphone)
An assortment of objects to use for sound foley (more details will be provided by email).
