Aberystwyth Arts Centre Community Theatre Company present the delightful seasonal classic ‘The Little Match Girl’. The Little Match Girl is a delightful musical/play, set in London at Christmas 1880. It tells the magical story of a poor girl, who tries to make a living selling matches in the cold London streets, of her heartfelt friendship with Arthur, the young bootblack, her meeting with the kind wealthy girl, Charlotte, and the cruelty of her father Jebb. Too frightened to go home, she sits in the streets, striking matches to keep warm. Through the flickering light she sees dreamlike visions of happiness, visions which bring her comfort and joy. The story is told through drama, dance and sparkling, moving, joyous, entertaining songs – the most famous being ‘Mistletoe and Wine’. It is an uplifting show, with a cast of children and adults, calculated to make us stop and consider what Christmas really means. Book and lyrics, Jeremy Stewart and Leslie Paul, music, Keith Strachan. The Little Match Girl is presented by kind permission of Jeremy Paul and Leslie Stewart (book and lyrics) and Keith Strachan (music). It is Directed by Barbara and Richard Hogger, with Andrew Cusworth, Musical Director and Sally Saunders, Choreographer.
