More than 20 years before the film and play The Madness of George III caught the public’s imagination, composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies immortalised the monarch’s descent into dementia and delusion in Eight Songs for a Mad King - a classic piece of music theatre and a disturbing and poignant portrayal of madness.  Welsh baritone Kelvin Thomas reprises the virtuoso lead role that he has made his own in productions across the world.

Eight Songs is performed alongside Vasco Mendonça’s compelling new setting of Samuel Beckett’s monologue Ping.  Combining live performance with digital sound and video scenography, this is a work at the cutting edge of contemporary European music theatre.

There will be a pre-show talk in the theatre foyer at 6.30pm and a post-show talk also in the theatre foyer after the perfomance. These talks are free and open to all.
