Britain is in the Midst of a Working-Class Revolt (by John Harris)
Friday 29th March 3pm, Castle Theatre, St. Michael’s Place
An 8-hour durational performance exhibition in the run up to the UK’s exit from the European Union. Presented by students of the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies.
What were the people thinking before the Brexit vote? Britain is in the Midst of a Working-Class Revolt is a snapshot of opinion on one day – 17th June 2016 – as seen in a Guardian comments page. Barring ultra-nationalist bluster or lunatic conspiracy theories, all shades of comment are represented there: careful argument, petulant put-downs, irony, verbosity, comedy (not always successful), emotional opining and rhetorical bravura.
This one-off theatre experience starts as a series of one-to-one appointments in a multimedia environment and ends with a completely empty theatre in total darkness. Come for five minutes, or stay for the whole eight hours: remain or leave as you please!
