(Sarah Turner, UK, 2009, 118 mins)
Blurring the boundary between reality and fiction, the personal and the political, Perestroika retraces a journey on the Trans-Siberian railway from Moscow to Lake Baikal in an attempt to come to terms with the death of a close friend. Through hypnotic and haunting imagery and evocative soundscapes, the journey, which interweaves footage from the original trip 20 years earlier, becomes a metaphor for the process of remembering and re-experiencing. Sarah Turner will be present for a Q&A after the screening. In association with the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies
