THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERYAbertoir’s guest of honour this year, Catriona MacColl, stars in Lucio Fulci’s third film in his loose zombie trilogy (grouped with The Beyond and City of the Living Dead). Presented in a new high definition transfer courtesy of Arrow Films, the wonderfully nonsensical plot follows a family who move into a gothic style house (conveniently located next to a cemetery) and discover that if you have a deranged flesh-hungry Dr Freudstein living in your cellar, things might possibly not work out for the best. There’s hints of everything in Fulci’s film: The Shining, Frankenstein, Amityville… but the film is nonetheless distinctively Fulci. Not everything makes sense (is it meant to?) but its dark, brooding atmosphere and violent set-pieces make for a fun ride for fans of Italian horror and a perfect midnight screening.
DANGER 5: Episode 2 - LIZARD SOLDIERS OF THE THIRD REICHNazi dinosaurs are turning up all over the European front, devouring their way through the Allied war effort. But after a series of close shaves with a trigger-happy Triceratops and a perverted Pterodactyl, the team head to Antarctica to put a stop to Dr Mengele and his sinister volcano base of Nazi dinosaur minions.
