Walton Façade – An Entertainment
Written to show off the capabilities of the new pedal harp that the firm of Érard was launching, Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro is far more than an occasional piece and what is so impressive is the way that he exploits the full range of sounds that each of the instruments can produce, to create a sensual beauty that no description can possibly convey.
Façade – a collection of tongue-twisting nonsense poems by Edith Sitwell recited over music by William Walton – has long since overcome the critical hostility with which it was first received and is now the way in which Sitwell’s poetry is most affectionately remembered as well as being one of Walton’s most successful compositions.
Gold Pass £140 (before 1st July only) includes tickets for all concerts and recitals and a souvenir programme – full cost of tickets £241.
