For its debut at MusicFest, the Welsh Chamber Orchestra has chosen a programme that spans 300 years, from Vivaldi’s much-loved concerto for two cellos and a delightful divertimento by the 16-year-old Mozart, through to the popular Sea Sketches, written in 1944 by the Barry-born composer Grace Williams and the première of a brand new work by the Jamaican composer Eleanor Alberga.
The Welsh Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1986 to fill the gap in the music making life of Wales between performances of solo and small chamber music ensembles and those of the symphony orchestra. It performs throughout the UK and has undertaken several European concert tours, performing with many of the world’s greatest soloists. Jeremy Huw Williams was born in Cardiff in 1969 and educated at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf and St John’s College Cambridge. He made his debut with Welsh National Opera as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte and has since appeared in some sixty operatic roles, performing at major venues all over the world.
