David Garner is a sculptor who works with recycled materials and found objects to create works which are visually arresting, satisfyingly quirky in execution and often punningly titled. However, what has always distinguished this artist is his clear and undiminished articulation of right and wrong; his engagement with politics in his works.
The artworks in Future Tense reflect a world in flux, the human cost uncounted; the works speak of labour and class in our society: both the loss of jobs as well as lives lost to repetition; as well as touching on the economy, housing, education and the effects of globalisation. The work does not preach nor offer a solution, but reflects the way we organise our society; despite the leavening of humour a sense of outrage or sadness is never far away.
Opening of the exhibition: Friday 5 October, 7p.m.
