A magnificent and unsettling sight, Stranded - a 6m long Minke whale skeleton encrusted with ice-like alum crystals - arouses a strong visceral response in the viewer. Like much of the artists’ work this piece centres on issues around climate change; specifically of human-induced changes in the chemistry of the oceans and the threat to marine food cycles. Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey’s works move between various artistic disciplines as well as biology and ecology. Many visitors will remember their exhibition ‘Sunbathers’- a spectacular huge photographic image grown in grass, part of their acclaimed work with seedling plants researched alongside IBERS Aberystwyth. In addition to Stranded this current exhibition includes Polar Diamond and the first UK showing of The Ecocide Trials.
