Dr Elinor Hughes, who died on January 5th, was a much-loved Aberystwyth GP and a central figure in the musical life of Aberystwyth. She was a trustee of Philomusica, the orchestra in which she played the bassoon for many years, as well as being publicity officer both for the orchestra and for the Aberystwyth Music Club. She was an active supporter of Musicfest and of the Friends of Musicfest. At the suggestion of pianist Viv Mclean, who was a good friend of Elinor and who has played many times in Aberystwyth, this special Aberystwyth Music Club concert will take place in her memory. Viv will be playing nocturnes, ballades and the Fantasy-Impromptu by Chopin, two pieces by Schumann, and the solo piano version of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. A group of local musicians, all friends of Elinor, will be performing other chamber works.
Admission by programme, available at the door, concert starts at 8pm.
All proceeds will go to Philomusica and to Friends of Musicfest
