(Bela Tarr, Hungary/France/Switzerland/Germany 2011, 154 minutes, B&W, subtitles)
The extraordinary last film from the legendarily uncompromising Bela Tarr is like so much of his work, long, slow and infinitely rewarding if you can take the pace. This explores the gradual coming of the end of the world through the daily routine of an elderly peasant, his daughter and their horse. Shot in beautiful black & white, Tarr's most stripped-down, direct and compassionate film is a work of genius that should not be missed by anyone remotely interested in cinema.
