This exquisite, lyrical, immersive documentary creates a strikingly beautiful portrait of an extraordinary vanishing world. Every year thousands of families travel to a bleak desert in Gujarat where they extract the whitest salt in the world using the same painstaking manual techniques as generations before them. We spend a season with one of these families observing the very particular rhythms of their lives as they work on the salt marshes. We get to know the sounds and rhythms of their labour, witnessing their ingenuity and persistence as they undertake their Sisyphean task. When the monsoon rains come, the sea rises once more and no trace of their work remains.
