(Adrian Noble, UK 2019, 91mins)
Timothy Spall gives a brilliant performance as L S Lowry, the British artist whose depiction of industrial landscapes is acclaimed world over. Working as a rent collector in Salford, his experience of factories and their downtrodden workers becomes his artistic inspiration in evening classes. Yet as his skill as a painter becomes stronger, he becomes locked in a battle against his controlling mother (Vanessa Redgrave), who attempts to stop him pursuing his art.
Following the film there will be a recorded 25 min gallery Q&A with Timothy Spall discussing the work of Lowry.
This is a parent and baby screening. There are some changes to the usual cinema experience to accommodate parents who bring their babies:- low level lighting- reduced volume- it's okay to make a noise
