A rebellious young woman with cerebral palsy, Laila leaves her home in Delhi to study in New York, unexpectedly falls in love, and embarks on an exhilarating journey of self-discovery. Based on a true story this funky, stereotype-busting, coming-of-age tale is a real joy thanks to Kalki Koechlin’s delightful central performance. This beautifully depicts Laila’s close relationship with her hugely supportive mother, her engaging sense of humour, and her refusal to let her disability prevent her from taking control of her life. Inevitably Laila suffers more than her share of disappointment, but her fast-moving emotional journey is so charming and breezily rendered that it engages our sympathies throughout.
“depicts Laila’s dilemmas and difficulties with clarity and strength” Guardian
