A fascinating portrait of the cultural crisis faced by a middle-class couple trying to lead more Westernised lives while still adhering to traditional Iranian customs and values. Hamoun, a frustrated middle-aged executive dreams of becoming a writer. While he has no choice but to obey the strict laws of his conservative society he feels that he doesn't fit in. Disillusioned, decadent Hamoun vents his frustrations upon his wife, Mashid, a successful painter. Tired of being bullied, when she tries to get a divorce Hamoun is devastated. With its nervous energy and surreal, absurdist dream sequences this mixes Manhattan and La Dolce Vita through a wholly Iranian lens.
