Becoming a Villain: The Early Career of Vincent Price and the Importance of Dragonwyck
A Presentation by Vincent Price’s Daughter, Victoria Price, and film screening of Dragonwyck (PG)
Vincent Price is perhaps one of the most recognisable actors of the 20th Century. His long and varied career has seen him tread the Broadway stages of the 1930s, become an avid art collector, a gourmet chef, a star of television and radio, and of course his appearance in over 100 films. His movie career has taken him from the biblical epics of Cecil B Demille through the gothic masterpieces of Roger Corman, and even as far as Tim Burton. The influence on film of this King of Horror is unparalleled.
What is perhaps lesser known is Vincent’s family connections to Wales. His second wife Mary was born in Pembrokeshire, and so it is particularly fitting that we welcome to Aberystwyth Victoria Price, their daughter, to present a special evening whereby she will be looking back on her father’s early career - sharing rare photos and incredible stories of his early ascent to stardom and his discovery of the joys of villainy. Victoria's talk will be followed by a screening of the classic 1946 gothic period drama Dragonwyck, in a beautiful new restoration.
We invite you to join us for a memorable evening and a chance to celebrate the extraordinary early career of a true legend of cinema.
