To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Planet of the Apes, a screening of the original film, where Charlton Heston exerts all of his Alpha-male characteristics in a world where man is now a sub-species. A group of astronauts travel in hyper-sleep to a distant world in the distant future to find that apes have replaced men as the dominant species, and then battle to escape their captors and return to Earth.
The film offers an exploration of contemporary society, as well as themes of slavery, intelligence versus violence, and gender. The soundtrack and cinematography also provide an interesting contrast to some of the more artistically regarded examples of American cinema at this time, such as Bonnie and Clyde, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Rosemary’s Baby.
