(Emile Ardolino, USA 1987, 100mins)
The summer of 1963 and ‘Baby’ Houseman is with her family at a holiday camp in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. There she learns to dance, falls in love, and has the time of her life. One of the most iconic films of the 1980s (if not all time) sees Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze perform a dance routine that stands in the memory alongside anything by Fred and Ginger. Often put down as a film for hormonal teenage girls, the strength of its fan-base cannot be ignored, and a script as quotable as anything by Tarantino or Scorsese.
