One White Cloud
The Memopia Project
On August 6th in Hiroshima Japan, thousands of paper lanterns representing the souls of those killed in the atomic attack float down the city's Motoyasu River.
In the meantime scientists debate the controversial idea that water can retain memory; that clouds can hold some form of ice memory. And we ask ourselves this; what if water had a voice? What if the 562 rivers running through Hiroshima hold the memories of those that drowned in them? What if the water that surrounds us, fills us and forms us could also transform us? Perhaps we could then invoke lost voices and memories; perhaps we could then give form to memory and make the invisible, visible.
‘One White Cloud' is the first performance by The Memopia Project, a collaborative partnership between two practioners.
Examining the atomic attack on Hiroshima this performance uses traditional Japanese music, found text and images to explore the idea of memory and place and to evoke the lost voices of the past.
Mae'r perfformiad hwn yn archwilio'r ymosodiad atomig ar Hiroshima gan ddefnyddio cerddoriaeth draddodiadol Siapaneaidd, testun a delweddau i ddehongli'r syniad o gof a lle ac i ail-greu lleisiau colledig y gorffennol.
