Under Milk Wood
Remedy Theatre Company
By Dylan Thomas
Directed by Harry Durnall
Described as the greatest piece of poetical theatre ever written, Under Milk Wood bursts with a startling imagery that is brilliant and inspirational. The all seeing narrator invites the audience to listen to the dreams and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of an imaginary small Welsh village. They include Mrs Ogmore-Pritchard, relentlessly bossing her two dead husbands, Captain Cat, reliving his seafaring days, and Polly Garter pining for her dead lover.
Later, the town awakes, and we are aware now of how their feelings affect whatever they do, as we watch them go about their daily business.
Dylan Thomas's landmark play in the history of theatre, was written in response to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima..." as a way of reasserting the evidence of beauty in the world"
