The Box, in the main Arts Centre foyer, shows artists' films of many kinds. Each season includes five or six different artists' work, shown one per day on a rotating basis - so if you often visit the Arts Centre on Tuesdays for example you should be able to see all the works, over time.
Season 2 of the box has many voices - there are 26 short films, two riveting ghost stories (just right for cold, gloomy days), a record of an amazing moving sculpture and the opinions of twenty Welsh people.
The short films are indeed short - 90 seconds each. They are part of DepicT!, an international film competition which has been challenging film makers to create concise little gems since 1998. DepicT! is run by Watershed, Bristol, as part of Encounters International Film Festival and every year hundreds of films from dozens of countries are received. The ghost stories included in this season are conveyed by performance on film; while Dominoes is a document of a fantastic kinetic sculpture, an artwork meandering its way across London.
Mandy Pritchard's composite video is a ‘vox pop', incorporating the opinions of a diverse range of individuals in south Wales; all of whom were asked the same series of questions and whose replies reflect the mixed nature of our modern communities.

These films will be on show during Abertoir Film Festival. In these films Robert Lloyd Parry performs two of the eeriest and most entertaining tales by Montague Rhodes James, written early in the twentieth century.

Between Ourselves is a film work which presents the views of a random cross section of people living in Monmouthshire.
