At the Edge: British Art 1950 to 2000
At the Edge explores British art from the second half of the 20th Century, drawing on sculpture, ceramics, painting and print works from four public art galleries: Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale and Preston. The exhibition includes works by celebrated British artists such as Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson, Jacob Epstein, Graham Sutherland, Lucian Freud, Helen Chadwick, Frank Auerbach, Laura Ford and Andy Goldsworthy. In addition to showing some groundbreaking works this exhibition shares the stories of obstacles overcome in building up these public collections, not least in the struggle for funds and against hostile public opinion regarding contemporary art; which reflect current challenges facing public collections.
Mae’r arddangosfa hon yn archwilio celf Prydeinig o ail hanner yr 20fed Ganrif, yn tynnu ar gerflunwaith, serameg, paentio a gwaith print o bedair oriel gelf gyhoeddus. Dangosir gwaith gan artistiaid Prydeinig blaenllaw ac yn ogystal â dangos darnau arloesol, fe rennir hefyd straeon am y rhwystrau a orchfygwyd wrth ddatblygu’r casgliadau cyhoeddus hyn, yn nhermau’r frwydr am arian ac yn erbyn barn gyhoeddus ynglyn â chelf gyfoes.
