Miranda Whall: Is it ok if?
Miranda Whall’s artworks draw in the viewer with an enticing familiar sound or image – seductive whispers, beautiful, delicate imagery; only to turn expectations upside down. She creates fictional situations in which to explore aspects of life and female identity, questioning social rules and expectations; her solipsistic art practice explores how self expression can exist alongside the various social, political and cultural constraints on the individual, and also how it appears within the natural or animal environment. Her expression intentionally appears misplaced, awkward or inappropriate; and her simultaneously idiosyncratic and universal ideas of self are explored in ironic relation to art-historical, technological, pastoral, and Romantic imagery.

Mae gwaith celf Miranda Whall yn denu’r gwyliwr gyda rhyw sŵn neu ddelwedd gyfarwydd - sibrydion hudol, delweddau prydferth; dim ond i ddymchwel yr holl ddisgwyliadau. Mae hi’n creu sefyllfaoedd ffuglennol lle mae’n archwilio agweddau o fywyd ac hunaniaeth menywod, gan gwestiynu rheolau a disgwyliadau cymdeithas; mae ei hymarfer celf solipsistaidd yn archwilio sut y gall hunan-fynegiant fodoli ochr yn ochr â gwahanol gyfyngiadau cymdeithasol, gwleidyddol a diwylliannol yr unigolyn, ac hefyd sut mae’n ymddangos o fewn amgylchedd natur neu anifeiliaid. Ymddengys ei mynegiant yn fwriadol i fod yn anghyfforddus neu’n anaddas; ac archwilir ei syniadau idiosyncratig a byd-eang ar yr un pryd mewn perthynas â gwhanol agweddau celf.
