Pete Davis: Wildwood

Pete Davis has become renowned for his mastery of large format photography and for the fine printing of his images.

This exhibition is the culmination of his work which continues his exploration, through photography, the nature of landscape.  He quotes:

"Robert Adams has said that: ‘Landscape pictures can offer us, I think, three verities - geography, autobiography and metaphor.' Over the many years I have been photographing the landscape, I have attempted to address those issues stated by Adams. If you add in the important further element of history, one begins to realise how complex the representation of the landscape becomes."

Born in Cardiff in 1947, Pete Davis began taking photographs at the age of eleven. After ten years as an advertising and fashion photographer, he moved to west Wales from which base he has embarked on trips around Britain, Europe and the USA with his large format camera.

Pete Davis is Senior Lecturer in Photography at the University of Wales, Newport. His photographs are in many national and international collections, and he continues to exhibit widely in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Daeth Pete Davis yn adnabyddus am ei ddawn i feistroli ffotograffiaeth ar fformat mawr ac am y printio cywrain o'i ddelweddau. Mae'r arddangosfa hon yn dod â'i waith at ei gilydd ac yn archwilio, trwy ffotograffiaeth, natur tirlun.

Ganwyd Pete Davis yng Nghaerdydd ym 1947, a dechreuodd gymryd ffotograffau yn unarddeg oed. Ar ôl deng mlynedd fel ffotograffydd hysbysebu a ffasiwn, symudodd i orllewin Cymru gan ymgymryd â theithiau o gwmpas Prydain, Ewrop a'r UDA.  Ef yw'r Prif Ddarlithydd mewn Ffotograffiaeth ym Mhrifysgol Cymru Casnewydd. Gwelir ei waith mewn llawer o gasgliadau cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol ac mae'n parhau i arddangos yn eang ym Mhrydain, Ewrop a'r UDA.
