No Such thing as Society
A vivid picture of recent British society as seen by leading photographers. Tony Ray-Jones, for example, captures the comedies of social class and the absurdities of human behaviour within the constraints of British culture; while social conditions are documented in Paul Graham's darkly coloured, claustrophobic interiors of DHSS offices, and Martin Parr's lividly coloured documents of holiday makers in New Brighton, Liverpool.
Urban disaffection is captured by Ian Dobbie, while more conventional forms of photo-journalism of urban conflict in the North of Ireland and the streets of South London are employed by Philip Jones-Griffith and Paul Graham.
Curated by David Alan Mellor, Professor of Art History at the University of Sussex.

Gallery Talk with Daniel Meadows, lecturer in photography & participatory media at Cardiff University and an exhibiting artist in ‘No Such Thing as Society'. Daniel will start with a formal presentation on his work, and will then invite questions and comment during a ‘Walk and Talk' around the work in the Gallery. Please Note: This replaces the talk by David Mellor which had previously been advertised for 6pm
