Gibson / Martelli - igloo

Inspired by the artists' travels to the snowy mountains of the Canadian Rockies and developed during research at the Banff Arts Centre, Visitor investigates the experience of place: real and invented panoramas illustrate the beauty and strangeness of the natural world.

Vermilion Lake is a full-size replica of a trappers' cabin, which houses an interactive virtual environment. Where The  Bears Are Sleeping is a film depicting monochromatic imagery of glaciers, forests and frozen landscapes.

In both works, either a friendly or malevolent force is suggested, evoking the hunter being hunted, the tracker being tracked. Employing techniques used in video games, bringing exterior virtual space into the physical gallery space the exhibition plays with our apprehension of different forms of reality.

Gibson / Martelli work together as igloo. Their first work won them a BAFTA nomination and their installations, video works, online projects and performances have featured in international exhibitions and festivals including the 52nd Venice Biennale.

VISITOR is a touring exhibition produced in association with artsdepot. Commissioned by the Henry Moore Foundation and Arts Council England. Supported by The Banff Centre, Canada.

Wedi'i hysbrydoli gan deithiau'r artistiaid i fynyddoedd eiriaidd y Rockies yng Nghanada ac wedi'i datblygu yn ystod cyfnod o ymchwil yng Nghanolfan Gelf Banff, mae'r arddangosfa Visitor yn archwilio'r profiad o leoliad: mae panoramâu real a dyfeisiedigyn portreadu prydferthwch a dieithrwch y byd naturiol. Mae Gibson / Martelli yn gweithio efo'i gilydd fel igloo. Cawsant enwebiad BAFTA ar gyfer eu darn cyntaf ac mae eu gosodweithiau, gweithiau fideo, prosiectau ar-lein a pherfformiadau wedi ymddangos mewn arddangosfeydd a gwyliau rhyngwladol gan gynnwys Biennale Fenis.
