Welsh Independent Dance Performance Project

Welsh Independent Dance is running a three-day performance project for professional dance artists led by Simon Whitehead. This course will provide dance artists with the opportunity to work intensively with an experienced professional, sharing their working practice and working collaboratively.

A three-day exploration in the studio and built environment surrounding Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Simon will introduce a place sensitive approach to making movement performance and share practical methods of documentation. Video documentation, writing, images will be presented at an informal sharing on Friday 30 May.  Simon Whitehead works from his base in rural west Wales and internationally. He has developed a body of work from the pedestrian; encountering situations at walking pace his works are place sensitive and often involve a process of ritual reconstruction through the body, live performance, sound and sensory media. Over the last eight years, he has collaborated closely on many of these works with sound artist Barnaby Oliver and his work continues to embrace notions of plurality and the collaborative process with other artists, the public, place and animals.
