When his workmate dies after a heavy drinking session, Zhao decides to keep his promise and take Liu's body home to be buried. With next to no money and a corpse on his back Zhao sets off on a tragicomic odyssey across China meeting a whole host of strange, sad, and helpful people along the way. Funny, sharp and well-observed satire alternates with moving moments, the film mixes the mundane and the bizarre to great effect as it shifts effortlessly between melodrama and slapstick visual comedy.
