Ella Good and Nicki Kent are Bristol based artists who make contemporary performance and live art. Our work uses a ʻD.I.Yʼor handmade aesthetic to explore situations where the mundane and extraordinary meet. Our current touring performance, ʻWild Thing I Love Youʼ, examines a real journey we made across rural America in search of Bigfoot.
The accompanying one day workshop, suitable for undergraduate performance students, offers a chance to learn about our approach to making performance through research, and our experience of creating work that is participatory in its nature. We will discuss current trends in interactive work, ranging from one on one pieces to community focused participatory projects.
Participants will be given the opportunity to make a short one onone piece, using Dictaphones, video and other media. They will be given starting points and do not need to prepare anything in advance. Our work focuses on creating generous and careful opportunities for audience interaction, focusing on placing the audience at the centre of the experience. Participants are encouraged to think about how and why you might choose to make work in this way, and what possibilities this opens up for an audienceʼs experience.
