Rhodri Jones: Albania - Land of the Living Past

Rhodri Jones was born in Gwynedd, Wales in 1963 and is presently based in Italy. Having travelled widely in Europe, South America and East Africa, he began working as a professional photographer in 1989 in Central America. He has since worked on projects around the globe and his work has been used by many leading newspapers, NGOs, magazines and publishers worldwide.

Transmitted orally for generations, the laws of the ‘Kanun’ served for more than five centuries as the foundation of social behaviour and self government for the

clans of Northern Albania. Despite the harsh and extensive programmes to abolish its authority over the people during Hoxha’s fifty year long communist dictatorship, the ‘Kanun’s’ precepts continue to exercise a very significant influence. This influence became particularly evident during political and/or social crises. The stunning images in this exhibition tell the story of a people bound by their past and confused by the contradictions this creates with the realities they are facing in a new century.

Hire Fee £2000 plus one way transport and insurance.

This exhibition is available to hire from September 2008

Ganed Rhodri Jones yng Ngwynedd, Cymru yn 1963 ac mae’n byw yn yr Eidal ar hyn o bryd. Wedi teithio’n eang yn Ewrop, De America a Dwyrain Affrica, dechreuodd weithio fel ffotograffydd proffesiynol ym 1989 yn America Ganolog. Ers hynny mae wedi gweithio ar brosiectau ledled y byd a defnyddiwyd ei waith gan lawer o bapurau newydd blaengar, cyrff anllywodraethol, cylchgronau a chyhoeddwyr yn fyd-eang.

Yn cael eu trosglwyddo ar lafar ers cenedlaethau, bu cyfreithiau’r ‘Kanwn’ yn gwasanaethu am fwy na phum canrif fel cynsail ymddygiad cymdeithasol a hunanlywodraeth ar gyfer gwahanol dylwythau Gogledd Albania. Er gwaetha’r rhaglenni llym a helaeth i ddiddymu ei awdurdod dros y bobl yn ystod unbennaeth gomiwnyddol hanner canmlynedd Hoxha, mae gorchmynion y Kanwn yn parhau i ddylanwadu’r gryf. Deuai’r dylanwad hwn yn arbennig o amlwg yn ystod argyfyngau gwleidyddol a/neu gymdeithasol. Mae’r delweddau syfrdanol yn yr arddangosfa hon yn adrodd hanes pobl sydd wedi’u rhwymo gan eu gorffennol, ac wedi’u drysu gan yr anghysonderau y mae hyn yn eu creu â’r gwirioneddau maent yn eu hwynebu mewn canrif newydd.

Tâl Llogi £2000 yn ogystal â chost cludiant unffordd ac yswiriant.

Mae’r arddangosfa hon ar gael i’w llogi o fis Medi 2008

James Morris : BUTABU

Adobe Architecture of West Africa

Pensaerniaeth Ado Gorllewin Affrica

James Morris: ButabuFollowing the success of the larger exhibition, shown in The Waterhall in Birmingham, RGS in London and The Gallery of Photography, Dublin, we are now touring a smaller version suitable for galleries with less hanging space.

James Morris has travelled extensively in West Africa and photographed the adobe architecture from the Friday mosque at Djenne - the largest mud building in the world - to small houses in remote communities. His photography shows West Africa’s extraordinary mud buildings as both aesthetic treasures and structures with contemporary relevance.

The exhibition consists of 33 large scale photographs.

This exhibition is offered for hire from December 2007. Hire fee £1000 plus one way transport and insurance.

For further details please contact Sophie Bennett 01970 621903 sob@aber.ac.uk

Yn dilyn llwyddiant yr arddangosfa fawr a gynhaliwyd yn yr Waterhall yn Birmingham, RGS yn Llundain a’r Oriel Ffotograffiaeth yn Nulyn, rydym bellach ar daith â fersiwn llai sy’n addas ar gyfer orielau sydd â llai o ofod hongian.

Mae James Morris wedi teithio’n eang yng ngorllewin Affrica gan dynnu ffotograffau o’r bensaernïaeth adobe sy’n amrywio o’r Mosg Dydd Gwener yn Djenne - yr adeilad mwd mwyaf yn y byd - i dai bychain mewn cymunedau anghysbell. Mae ei ffotograffiaeth yn dangos adeiladau mwd anhygoel Gorllewin Affrica fel trysorau esthetig a hefyd fel adeileddau sydd â pherthnasedd cyfoes.

Mae’r arddangosfa yn cynnwys 33 o ffotograffau ar raddfa fawr.

Mae’r arddangosfa hon ar gael i’w llogi fis Rhagfyr 2007. Y ffi logi yw £1000 ynghyd â chludiant unffordd ac yswiriant.

Yn Pets, mae pobl - y tro hwn y rhai sy’n caru anifeiliaid - unwaith eto yn datgelu eu hunain o flaen ei chamera. Yn llawn cymeriad a swyn mae Pets yn datgelu natur anhygoel y perthynas rhwng dyn ac anifail.
