Artists in Residence: Jean-Yves Vigneau

Jean-Yves Vigneau was born on a small Island, part of the Magdalen Islands, in the Canadian province of Quebec - where he could see the sea all around him just by turning his head.  The landscape and culture of islands shaped his views of the world.

Over the years he has translated this attachment to island living into a body of work that includes sculptures, installations, drawings, photographs and videos. His most recent works explore other aspects of the maritime landscape which are often inspired by legends and myths, with his own story finding expression in a new landscape.

Dros y blynyddoedd, mae wedi trosi’r ymlyniad hwn wrth fywyd ar yr ynysoedd i gorff o waith sy’n cynnwys cerfluniau, gosodwaith, arlunio, ffotograffau a fideos. Mae ei waith diweddaraf yn archwilio agweddau eraill ar y dirwedd forol sydd yn aml yn cael ei ysbrydoli gan chwedlau a mythau, a’i hanes ef ei hun yn cael hyd i fynegiant mewn tirlun newydd.
