Neil Brand, writer, composer, silent film accompanist and presenter, studied drama at Aberystwyth. It was there he began writing and composing music seriously. Recognised as the ‘doyen of silent film pianists’ he regularly accompanies silent film at the National Film Theatre and across the world. He has composed original scores for BFI video releases of such films as South, The Ring by Alfred Hitchcock, the epic ‘lost’ film The Life and Times of David Lloyd George, as well as much early, avant-garde cinema and Russian pre-Soviet cinema. His most recent film scores include Silent Britain, The Cat and the Canary and the Laurel and Hardy short You’re Darn Tootin’. Undoubtedly as accompanist and composer he is one of the world’s most brilliant creators of music for early cinema working today.
