An afternoon of new composition with Richard Blackford, Tom Poster, Solem Quartet, Arlene Sierra, Kenneth Hesketh and students from the Advanced Composition Course.
Gareth Moorcraft will present his 3 new minature pieces composed in residence at MusicFest Aberystwyth performed by Tom Poster and Junior Fellows. Gareth Moorcraft has been selected to write a new work to be premiered at MusicFest Aberystwyth 2018.
Students from the Advanced Composition will present an open rehearsal of their new works composed on the course performed by Solem Quartet.
Richard Blackford will present an illustrated talk on composing for film and television with excerpts from film and television pieces and performances by Solem Quartet and Junior Fellows.
Richard Blackford’s new work, commissioned for MusicFest 2017, for mezzo-soprano, clarinet and string quartet will be performed by Rosanna Cooper, Solem Quartet and David Campbell. His Clarinet Quintet was performed at MusicFest in 2009 and again in 2016; his Great Animal Orchestra Symphony was performed at MusicFest in 2014 and his Polymetric Studies in 2016. Richard has written extensively for theatre, film and television including The Laborers of Herakles, The Kaisers of Carnuntum (both by Tony Harrison) and for TV Fingersmith, The Shell Seekers and Ruth Rendell Mysteries.
