Musicfest is an invigorating fusion of Music Festival and Summer School which takes place over eight days. The concert programme includes over 40 performances taking place throughout the day and into the evening, in and around the Arts Centre and throughout the town.
The concert highlights in 2014 will be the Great Animal Orchestra, a performance of a new work for symphony orchestra commissioned jointly by Musicfest and Cheltenham International Music Festival. Musicfest is delighted to be welcoming the London School Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Peter Ash, who will be performing along with specially invited guest musicians. The work brings together the sounds of wild animals, insects and whales, recorded by the musician and sound recordist, Bernie Krause and an original score by Richard Blackford. Other concert highlights include Tom Poster, David Campbell, the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, Solem Quartet and the Musicfest Chamber Ensemble. We will also be welcoming back Tiddly Prom to perform Bert’s Magical Musical Farmyard.
The Summer School focuses on learning through listening, practice and performance, students not only spend an intensive week of classes and masterclasses being taught by internationally renowned guest artists but also have the opportunity to participate in coached Chamber Music ensembles and perform in showcase concerts. In 2014 we will be offering courses in Clarinet, Violin, Cello, Classical Vocal, Musical Theatre, Conducting, Chamber Music Ensemble, Practical Psychology and Composition for Film and Television.
