By George Orwell
Adapted by Ian Wooldridge
At Mr Jonesʼ farm, Old Major gathers together his animal friends to tell them about his wonderful dream, where animals live free from the tyranny of the humans. When Old Major dies, and Jones forgets to feed the animals, the pigs put into effect their plan for rebellion – and ʻfour legs good, two legs badʼ seems to work for a while on Animal Farm... until some of the animals become more equal than others.
George Orwellʼs 1945 satire on the perils of Stalinism has proved long-lived as a parable about totalitarianism anywhere. Ian Wooldridgeʼs dramatisation sticks closely to the original and retains both its affection for the animals and the incisiveness of its message.
ʻDare I say it... as good as the bookʼ The Guardian.
