Three artists use film to explore a sense of place; projected on a large scale in the gallery.
Sabina Grasso was born in Geneva and now works all over the world. The ‘Midnight Candy’ suite focuses on various individuals’ lives, all set at sunset. Personal, intimate and poetic, in the films the individual and their surroundings are integrated.
Anton Hecht, based in Newcastle, regularly produces works with local communities. His films include ‘The Trolley Dance’, ‘One Note Band’ in which members of a local community created a joint visual musical piece; and ‘Playtime’ where people in Cardiff play a piece by Satie.
Canadian artist Elise Simard uses animation techniques to produce elegiac films which are experienced as fairy tales. She mixes experimental and traditional animation techniques, working with light, photographic filters and distortion lenses.
