This exhibition, curated by Richard Rhys Davies, shows promotional posters for espionage films made on both sides of the Iron Curtain during the Cold War. Different graphic styles in the East and West provide a snapshot of European taste, national identity and politics during this period, with the kitsch of Italian cinema posters juxtaposed with the low-tech of non-commercial Czech film posters.
Eurospy! Richard Rhys Davies will be giving a well illustrated talk on Saturday October 6th, 4.15-5.15pm, on ‘The European-ness of Eurospy’, 5.45 pm 35mm Film Screening - Deadlier than the Male (1966), followed by an illustrated introduction at 7.45pm before a screening of cult film Danger Diabolik (1968) at 8.00 pm . The first talk is free, the ‘Danger Diabolik’ introduction is included with the purchase of a ticket for the film.
