A mother’s lot is not a happy one in a society where men make all the decisions and women have to suffer the consequences. After her gruelling daily grind in the Tehran textile factory Tuba comes home to an invalid husband, a pregnant daughter whose husband beats her regularly; a teenage son, who's been getting into trouble due to his radical politics; and an older son who wants to fix all her problems by going to work in Japan. Tuba soldiers on trying to keep her family together despite her mounting troubles. The first lady of Iranian cinema evocatively captures the human struggle at the heart of a family in this absolutely authentic, strikingly made portrait of women’s lives.
“an involving, beautifully cast film that portrays contemporary Iranian issues in a remarkably universal light.” Hollywood Reporter
